I’ve spent the last decade selling marketing to marketing leaders. The only constant is the inconsistency across the profession. Modern Marketing is defined by performance, much like sales, marketing should result in tangible business level outcomes.
If sales were a simple as inputs and outputs everyone would be a rockstar. The bottom line is you have to build cheat codes to be successful. Those cheat codes typically take the form of relationships. Relationships take time but have a compounding effect.
